A confused Barry Allen asks Captain Cold what the Midnight Circus is and what room he was in. When he tries to go through the wall, Allen realizes that he has lost his powers and asks what is going on. He introduces himself as Flash, but Captain Cold does not recognize him, revealing that they met the day before and share a room. Cold introduces him to the Midnight Circus show on television, where Cat Grant is the host, accompanied by the winner of the previous edition, Captain Boomerang, talking about how the level of competitiveness has increased by recruiting all kinds of prisoners and convicts for a gladiatorial match. In the first round, Heat Wave faces Sharon Kleinberg, who is terrified to compete, trying to escape and beating her opponent, however, he quickly burns her, surprising Allen of how a woman was killed on television.
Allen asks about the legality of the show and Cold answers that it is controlled by Murmur who is the president, so Allen begins to despair trying to escape. At the Midnight Circus office, Cat Grant and Captain Boomerang talk until they are interrupted by Barry Allen to try to convince them not to compete by claiming to be an alternate Barry Allen without metahuman abilities, asking to be allowed to travel in time and solve their problems. Grant called his manager asking him if Allen could compete and he was allowed, Allen claimed to be innocent but Grant investigated showing him all his debts and how he defamed President Murmur, forcing him to return to his room.
Allen demanded to see a lawyer, however he spoke again with Captain Cold, who tried to explain the dangers of time travel, but Allen insisted on recreating his original transformation to regain his powers and return to his universe, but Captain Cold let him know that escaping the Midnight Circus was impossible due to the advanced security systems and that the only way to escape was to survive the 4 rounds of the competition.
