"She was my world. And you took her from me."
―Superman to Batman[src]

Kal-El, legally named Clark Joseph Kent, and most well known as Superman, is a former Kryptonian superhero and tyrannical general of the Regime. After the death of Lois Lane, he was controlled by Darkseid with the Anti-Life Equation, leading him to turn against the Justice League and the people of Earth against his own will as Darkseid's personal general ruling the remnants of Earth.

Biography[]

Succumbing to Anti-Life[]

Darkseid watches as Superman cries over Lois Lane's corpse

Superman is controled by Darkseid.

Lois Lane was killed by Darkseid, with Batman having been unable to prevent it. Consumed with grief, Superman was left susceptible to Darkseid's Anti-Life Equation and allied himself with the forces of Apokolips becoming the tyrannical ruler of the planet.[1] Earth was successfully terraformed by the Mother Boxes and the Regime was founded to aid Superman in his totalitarian regime of Earth, mercilessly killing anybody who opposed him. Batman promptly founded the Insurgency in order to combat this new threat, thus beginning a long conflict.[2]

Encounter with the insurgency[]

"He's found us."
Cyborg[src]

Upon learning of the Insurgency, Superman learned that Bruce Wayne and his team were on an abandoned bridge preparing a plan to stop it, Superman then suddenly landed in front of them activating his heat vision, so the members of the Insurgency, Flash, Cyborg, Deathstroke and Mera, prepared to face him.[3]

Revenge at Last[]

After years of conflict, Batman was finally ambushed and detained by the Regime. Immediately Superman was informed, and, filled with a mix of anger towards his former friend and a sense of triumph that justice for Lois would finally be done, he flew as fast as he could to the bunker where Batman was held. When he landed in the bunker, the Regime Sundiers reverently knelt before their leader. But Superman's gaze was fixated on the Batman as he ignored all his silent praise. He approached Batman, swiftly murdering the other members of the Insurgency with his heat vision. Superman then unmasked the visibly horrified vigilante. He expressed his anger at Bruce for letting "her" die, as she was "his world." Superman gave Batman one final sinister sneer, and ruthlessly killed him by tearing Batman's heart from his chest, thereby ending the conflict.[2] After killing Wayne, Superman floated above the ruins of the Justice League headquarters, holding Batman's cowl which he had torn off.[3]

Personality[]

The Knightmare timeline's Superman is cruel and angry, obsessed with revenge and filled with hate. He longs to avenge the death of his lover and scares his own Stormtroopers into worshipping him. Above all, he makes no decisions for himself, as the Anti-Life Equation forces his will unto Darkseid. After Lois was killed by Darkseid, Superman's inner strength was destroyed, opening him up to the effects of the Anti-Life Equation and falling under Darkseid's thumb. When an alternate-reality Flash showed Batman a vision of his own impending death in the event of Lex's failure, Anti-Life Equation's influence (and the subsequent manipulations of Darkseid) in Superman tragically induced him to become dark and malevolent, going so far as to take over the Earth and emotionlessly devastate its biome with a newly founded army of regime stormtroopers, whose worship he reveled in, as its tyrant totalitarian ruler, forming an alliance with Darkseid's parademons in the process. This version of Superman wore a permanent sinister scowl, and was able to kill insurgency enemies to his Regime in the most ruthless and brutal of ways, allowing him to burn his insurgency prisoners into ash with heat vision, and to murder that future's Batman by ripping out the latter's heart, all without any reluctance or remorse. Superman had become so dark and fearsome, that even Batman himself showed visible signs of fear when Superman confronted the imprisoned vigilante, holding the latter at his mercy.

Superman proved to be an exceptional leader, even greater than Batman (albeit a totalitarian one), having been able to found and lead his Regime to victory in the lengthy war against Batman's Insurgency, inspiring fierce loyalty in them to the point that the Regime Stormtroopers would always reverently kneel when their leader arrived, although it is worth mentioning that he had the advantage of superior military power to Batman.
