- "Amanda, we have hostiles up ahead."
"Flag, get out of there. We're not here to fight them. We know that doesn't work."
"Copy that. We're diverting. Bump out second squad two blocks east. We'll pass through you, continue north." - ―Rick Flag and Amanda Waller[src]
The Skirmish in Midway City was a confrontation between Task Force X, with the support of a group of United States Navy SEALs, against the Eyes of the Adversary, summoned by Enchantress to try to kill them.
Background[]
- "Here's the deal, you're going somewhere very bad to do something that'll get you killed, but until that happens... you're my problem."
- ―Rick Flag to Task Force X[src]
While investigating the Tres Osos Cave, archaeologist June Moone discovered a mysterious arctifact, which contained the ancient sorceress known as Enchantress, but since she accidentally destroyed it, Enchantress was able to possess Moone's body, who was able to control her only if she did not say her name. With her new power, Moone joined A.R.G.U.S. to serve Amanda Waller and hid the witch's heart, however, Enchantress was able to permanently take control of the body and later took over Midway City, where she reunited with her brother Incubus. Enchantress cast a spell on several civilians, turning them into her army, the Eyes of the Adversary.
Following the Incubus attack and Enchantress' escape, General Edwards gave the green light to Waller's secret project, Task Force X, a group of criminals with special abilities, breaking them out of their cells at Belle Reve Correctional Center and taking them to Midway City International Airport, where Colonel Rick Flag explained their mission and warned them about the Nano-Bombs in their necks. After preparing, the squad had a call with Waller, who ordered that upon arriving at Midway City, they were to rescue her asset HVT1, promising to reduce their sentences if they completed the mission, an offer they accepted and prepared to take off before meeting the vigilante Tatsu Yamashiro, who would also support the squad.[1]
Skirmish[]
- "That's how I cut and run."
- ―Floyd Lawton to Rick Flag[src]
After their helicopter crashed in Midway City, Task Force X and the Navy SEALs regrouped to begin walking towards the John F. Ostrander Federal Building until they encountered the Eyes of the Adversary guarding the area. Rick Flag contacted Amanda Waller for advice on what to do, receiving orders not to attack, so he ordered the second squad to split up while they passed their enemies, confusing Floyd Lawton, who ended up being discovered by the creatures, so Deadshot, Flag and the military began to shoot.
During the shootout, the Eyes of the Adversary attacked the military, who were saved by Katana, who killed several enemies with her sword. Harley Quinn used her Chiappa Rhino 60DS and her bat to shoot the Eyes of the Adversary along with the help of Deadshot and the savage strength of Killer Croc, managing to kill their enemies in rage. As the squad fought, Chato Santana chose to walk away from the fight, as did George Harkness until one of the Eyes of the Adversary destroyed his drink, angering him and joining the battle with his boomerangs.
Flag continued to fight the Eyes of the Adversary before being kidnapped by them, but Quinzel was forced to rescue her leader with the help of GQ Edwards. The military continued to launch attacks against the creatures as Deadshot continued to fire, but instead of continuing the attack, they allowed Deadshot to continue fighting, demonstrating his skills as a mercenary by killing all of his enemies, surprising the squad and the SEALs and even Flag himself, who he mocked by mentioning that this was his way of cutting and run.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "The brief said terrorists. You wanna start explaining this?"
"If I told you, would you believe me?" - ―GQ Edwards and Rick Flag[src]
Following the battle, Task Force X regrouped as George Harkness berated and mocked Chato Santana for not helping kill the Eyes of the Adversary. Rick Flag was confronted by GQ Edwards, as he did not reveal the truth of the creatures, whom they recognized as transformed civilians before moving on. Flag then told Amanda Waller that they lost Bravo Squad, though Waller claimed that they had lost contact with the second squad, unaware that Enchantress captured them and turned them into the new Eyes of the Adversary to launch a counterattack.[1]
