"None of these guys are kings, except this guy. Romulus. First king of Rome."
Aquaman to Mera[src]

Romulus was the legendary founder and first king of Rome.

Biography[]

Founding of Rome[]

In about 716 B.C., Romulus mysteriously disappeared from the world in a whirlwind. He reportedly had the Dreamstone in his possession, which likely helped enable his founding and leadership of Rome, but also likely caused his downfall. He was never seen again.[2]

Legacy[]

At some point a statue of Romulus was erected in Sicily, which was later used by King Atlan as a clue to the location of his trident. Arthur Curry and Mera followed the clue and were able to discover the trident, but not before Black Manta destroyed the statue.[3]

Trivia[]

  • In Wonder Woman 1984: The Junior Novel it is said that Romulus disappears mysteriously from the world, while Diana mentions him being assassinated in the film. Romulus disappearing from the world is based on one of the legendary ancient Roman stories of the real Romulus's fate, which held him to have disappeared in a whirlwind during a sudden storm. Another version of his death was that he was murdered by the Roman senators, perhaps the story that served as a basis for the line in Wonder Woman 1984.
