- "Kal-El?"
"It's not him. We've gotta go."
"Wait. We can't just leave her here. Look at her." - ―Barry Allen and Batman[src]
The Rescue of Supergirl was a rescue operation led by Barry Allen and Batman to find Kal-El in a black site in Siberia, but instead, they found Kara Zor-El, whom they decided to rescue and received her help in confronting the mercenaries who tried to stop them.
Background[]
- "I'll help you get this Superman. Then you're on your own."
"Holy... You... You are... You're..."
"Yeah... I'm Batman." - ―Batman and Barry Allen[src]
Seeking Bruce Wayne's help, Barry Allen and his younger self traveled to Wayne Manor. There, both Barrys found a much older Bruce, who upon hearing the two enter his manor, began attacking them in the kitchen. Bruce ended up falling on a piece of furniture, before coming to his senses and inviting them to eat. Explaining to him what his timeline was like and how he had traveled back in time and altered the past, Bruce revealed to Barry that he had not only changed the future but that he also changed the past, explaining it as a temporal fulcrum. When Barry asked Bruce for help in finding Kal-El and confronting General Dru-Zod, he refused and escaped from the two.
With no other options, the two Barrys decided to search for the Kryptonian on their own, secretly entering the Batcave, where the older Barry used the Batcomputer to look for signs of the alien pod that fell on Kansas, although he failed to find anything. After an argument with his younger self, Barry contacted Bruce via the Batcomputer, trying to convince him to help them on his mission. Bruce was eventually convinced to help them and put on his Batsuit again after years of retirement. Bruce now as Batman would enter the Batcave and surprise the two Barrys by revealing the Batwing and then himself, causing the younger Barry to pass out.[1]
Rescue[]
Infiltrating the Siberian Black Site[]
- "Why it is so cold?"
"It's the Artic, Barry." - ―Flash and Barry Allen[src]
Inside the Batwing, the trio would head towards Siberia, to a black site where Kal-El was apparently being held captive. There, Batman would activate the Batwing's ejector seats, jumping without a parachute since he could glide with his cape. Both the older Barry and the younger Barry, who was wearing the Flash Suit, would then jump with their parachutes into the snow, where they would begin following Batman until they reached the top of a hill and entered the base. With Batman missing, both Barrys began to descend a set of stairs leading to the base's laboratories, however, after Flash accidentally dropped a shovel, a squad of mercenaries intercepted them and attempted to shoot them.
Although Flash used his speed to save Barry from a bullet, the latter ended up vomiting due to the movement he received, before both were surrounded by the squad of mercenaries. At that, Batman jumped from a platform above to attract the attention of the mercenaries and with his cape he slid down to the bottom to begin fighting the mercenaries, knocking them out one by one with his abilities and his Batarangs. After defeating them, the trio entered the base, arriving at a gigantic room with a capsule chained in the air with a short flight of stairs. Although Batman attempted to use a device to hack the system and open the capsule, he was unable to find the combination. Flash, however, tried all the combinations in milliseconds, successfully opening the capsule entrance.[1]
Liberation of Kara Zor-El[]
- "You didn't tell me we could get shot!"
"Why would you assume we couldn't?" - ―Flash to Barry Allen[src]
Inside the capsule, the trio of heroes found not Kal-El, but his cousin Kara Zor-El in very bad condition. As an alarm began to ring, Batman suggested leaving her at the place, but Barry decided to carry her, grabbing a suit that was inside the capsule and carrying her in his arms while he escaped with the rest of his companions. On their way, a scientist appeared and attempted to shoot them, only to be pushed away by Flash. More mercenaries arrived at that moment and opened fire, shooting a bullet at the young speedster that passed through his leg. As he began to scream in pain, Batman intervened and covered him with his cape from the bullets, before throwing a smoke bomb at the squad of mercenaries and escaping with the rest through a small chasm.
A Russian captain, commanding the squad of mercenaries, began pulling several levers to free the capsule so that it would crush the intruders. Meanwhile, Batman tried to burn a grate with a blowtorch while the Russian captain ordered the squad to shoot the chains holding the capsule and then he himself would take a grenade launcher with which he would destroy all the chains. Fortunately, Batman and company had escaped through the fence and began to flee through the underground tunnels. The group found an old elevator in which Batman placed his companions, placing a sticky bomb under the elevator. After making measurements and calculating the weight of his companions, he activated the explosive, causing the elevator to shoot upward, incinerating a small group of mercenaries that was coming for them.
The elevator finally left the base, with the group falling into the snow at daylight, where they would quickly be intercepted by the squad of mercenaries who began pointing their weapons at them. On her side, the girl in poor condition, who had just been exposed to the sun, instantly rejuvenated and gained Kryptonian powers. Seeing her captors, she began attacking them, killing several mercenaries while Batman also attacked the soldiers. On the verge of the Russian captain nearly firing a bullet at Batman, Kara was quick to stop the bullet with her hand and throw the captain out of the base, killing him. Immediately afterwards, once the mercenaries were eliminated, the trio approached Kara, who would fall unconscious in the snow. Kara was later taken inside the Batwing.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "When you found me on that hole they put me in... and I wasn't Kal-El... why did you help me?"
"Because you needed help." - ―Kara Zor-El and Barry Allen[src]
Back at Wayne Manor, the two Barrys left Kara Zor-El resting on a table, covered with a blanket. When she woke up, Kara introduced herself as Kal-El's cousin, learning of Dru-Zod's invasion. Although Kara tried to leave and stop Zod, her weakened state made it impossible for her, so the young Barry took her to the roof of the mansion, where she put on her suit and finished recovering thanks to the energy of the Sun. Once she mastered her senses, Kara refused to help Barry and the rest due to the terrible treatment she received at the hands of humans, stating that she was not part of their people, before flying away in search of Zod and the Sword of Rao.
Kara tracked Zod with her super hearing, traveling to Edwards Air Force Base, where she saw the Black Zero deploying several Kryptonian dropships from which Zod and Faora-Ul descended. They, seeing that they did not have the refugee they requested, murdered the group of soldiers who were in the place, arranging their forces to attack all the human military forces. Kara's presence was quickly discovered by Zod, forcing her to flee and join forces with her rescuers to defeat Zod and his army. Kara went back to the Batcave, where she helped the older Barry regain his powers by taking him to the sky for a lighting bolt to struck him.[1]
