Rao is a red class M main-sequence star, otherwise known as a Red Dwarf star, which the now destroyed planet Krypton used to orbit in Galaxy-9.
Rao appeared relatively dim, but colossal in the Kryptonian sky (due to the planet's relative proximity to its star), and under Rao's light, Krypton's sky usually had an orange hue during the day.[2] In contrast to the Earth's sun, it was considered 5x larger, 60% less dense, with a surface temperature of 3317K. It was known to have been over 13 billion years of age, nearly as old as the universe itself.[3]
Effect on Kryptonians[]
Under their native sun, Kryptonians are only as strong, fast, and durable as an ordinary human of Earth, and possess no extraordinary superpowers whatsoever.[2]
