Orichalcum is a volatile polluting fuel used as a source of energy by Atlanteans, which causes an increase in global temperature. In ancient times, the Kingdom of Necrus became a superpower by exploiting Orichalcum, overheating and polluting the planet in the process.

Exploitation in Necrus[]
Prior to the Great Fall of Atlantis, Orichalcum was found and exploited by Kordax, the ruler of the Kingdom of Necrus and the younger brother of King Atlan. Using the Orichalcum deposits, Necrus became a vast superpower, although continued use of the resources resulted in a large emission of greenhouse gases that would send the world plummeting towards a climatic catalysm. After Atlan attempted to talk Kordax out of his ambitions, Kordax angrily refused and instead used Orichalcum to forge the Black Trident and turn his people and himself into monsters to wage war against Atlantis.[1]
