The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an independent agency of the U.S federal government, specializing in aeronautics and space research for the United States of America.

NASA also has a relationship with Wayne Aerospace, a division of Wayne Enterprises which supplies experimental aircraft to the agency.[1]

History

Project Starfish

"American goddamn astronauts found Starro. Yankee-fucking-doodle dandies."
Thinker to Rick Flag[src]

Starro is taken aboard the shuttle by NASA astronauts.

Near the end of the Cold War in 1991, a team of NASA astronauts found the being later known as Starro floating in space near Earth and brought it aboard their shuttle with no precautions, thus allowing Starro to start generating extensions of himself that proceeded to take over the on-duty NASA astronauts. Starro was later brought to Earth, and the U.S. government saw potential in using him as a weapon. Knowing the fallout that would ensue should the press find out that the U.S. was conducting illegal experiments with the creature, they made a secret deal with the Corto Maltese government, then ruled by the Herrera family, to conduct the experiments at the Nazi-built laboratory Jotunheim in the city of Valle Del Mar.[2]

Scout Ship 0344

Scout Ship 0344.

A NASA satellite detected a signal emanating from beneath the ice of Ellesmere Island, Canada.[3] This promptly led to the discovery of a Kryptonian scout ship called Scout Ship 0344 which was hidden on Earth for thousands of years. The scout ship became Superman's base of operations, and became known as the Fortress of Solitude.[4]

Duel at Gotham Port

The nuclear bomb is targeted at Doomsday.

Under the direct orders of the President of the United States, NASA[citation needed] launched a nuclear bomb at the Kryptonian mutant, Doomsday, to help Superman kill him in space, but was unsuccessful and Doomsday returned to Earth. Doomsday was later killed by Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman, with Superman risking his life in the process, leaving Earth defenseless.[5]
