Murn After Reading is the sixth episode of the first season of Peacemaker. The episode was written and directed by James Gunn, and it was released on Max on February 3, 2022.
Synopsis[]
Murn reveals his deepest secret; Auggie is set free; the botched arrest of Peacemaker sends alien Goff into an unexpected new host.
Plot[]
Adebayo falls to the ground in the middle of the rain while Murn tells her to stop since he was not going to hurt her, Harcourt arrives and asks Murn if she already discovered the secret to Adebayo's confusion. Emilia then tells Leota that they should talk about it, inside the store Harcourt mentioned how she discovered Murn's secret while Murn explained to Leota how he was a butterfly who betrayed his species to save the planet having to take the Clemson Murn's body, being the worst person he could find, Adebayo then asked if Economos knew the secret, to which Harcourt replied in the affirmative while mentioning that Waller didn't know much to Adebayo's displeasure, when Murn mentions the cow Adebayo proved not to know what he was talking about because of what Murn explained.
Peacemaker visits a school where the children ask him questions about his superhero career, at one point Adiva asks him about his origin story to which Smith decides to omit it, then a girl asks him about Becky Coolidge making Smith remember her, the girl then claimed to believe that Peacemaker was her father. As the bell rang and the kids left for recess, Jamil thanks Peacemaker for doing him a favor by coming to Adiva's class as they proceed to leave the school. In prison Auggie signs some papers to get out of prison, before leaving Auggie insults Song again, however she responds mockingly to him, in that Caspar Locke arrives upset that they have released Auggie while Song explains that the real person responsible was Peacemaker, Locke tells her that she has no idea what's at stake, but soon after she and Larry head off to prepare to arrest Peacemaker.
Leaving, Auggie is picked up by one of his henchmen who asks him to take him home since he had to take care of unfinished business, when the henchman asks what it was Auggie says he has to kill his son. In his trailer Peacemaker arrives to feed Eagly and Goff, at the store Leota asks Harcourt how she trusts Murn to which Economos arrives and turns a deaf ear when Harcourt mentions that Leota already knows Murn's secret, in that they begin to investigate Glan Tai plant's security cameras but shortly after Keeya sends a message to Leota saying she is worried about her, the police department led by Song begins to arm themselves to go to Peacemaker's house and arrest him while Song explains that he is a trained killer asking to be careful.
At that moment, Peacemaker receives a visit from Vigilante and then observes that Goff in its jar was forming the symbol of peace, confusing them. As the cops head out, Locke calls Murn to tell him of the problem, Peacemaker and Vigilante start asking Goff yes or no questions, where Chase asks random questions making Smith angry, when the cops arrive at Peacemaker's house, Murn calls Chase and Smith to tell them about the situation so Peacemaker goes to see the window and discovers the police arriving so they desperately begin to open the roof window, Song asks Smith to leave through a loudspeaker but when not having an answer, they decide to destroy the door of the trailer
When they enter and see no one, the police begin to inspect all the elements of the house, where Johnson finds Peacemaker's diary, which he begins to review confused, when Peacemaker and Vigilante get on to the branch of an Eagly tree is seen by Sophie Song so she asks Larry if Peacemaker had an eagle. Song begins to carefully check the back of the house so Peacemaker tries to escape by making noise through the leaves, alerting Song who points her gun, at one point Vigilante falls from the tree along with the jar that contained Goff which is breaks freeing the butterfly, Goff goes towards Sophie Song and begins to enter her mouth while Song tries to stop her, Goff has to enter killing Song while convulsing
In that Peggy finds them and tells her companions so Peacemaker and Vigilante begin to flee into the forest while some policemen chase them, Larry tries to save Song when he sees that she is convulsing, Eagly escapes with them while savagely murdering the policemen, in that they are surrounded by several policemen at the same time who point at them, but they are killed by Caspar Locke, Locke asks Peacemaker and Vigilante to escape confused at not knowing who it was, so he insists that they escape, while he escapes Ban Locke finishes killing the rest of the police witnesses. Peacemaker, Vigilante and Eagly get into a car, while Larry is still desperate for Song until she wakes up unexpectedly and gets up to look for Peacemaker confusing Fitzgibbon.
In the car Peacemaker tries to call Harcourt but Chase stops him by throwing his phone to the road, causing Peacemaker to get angry with him, a frustrated Peacemaker asks Vigilante to hand over his cell phone to call her but ends up discovering that Vigilante searched the internet for Taylor Swift's butt. Song and Fitzgibbon arrive at Locke's location where he was pretending to be sorry for the death of the policemen while lying about his escape, Song and Larry leave while Sophie has strange behaviors that confuse Larry, finally Song leaves in his car saying that should call some friends. When Locke returns, Johnson gives him Peacemaker's diary so he decides to make it while he asks Johnson to continue searching the trailer.
Harcourt tries to call Peacemaker while Murn asks if anyone knew that Peacemaker had a diary, in that Smith and Chase return to the store, the team asks if he had a diary to which an annoyed Peacemaker says no while explaining that the butterfly of Goff went into Sophie Song and as Locke killed three police officers, Economos then found important information on the computer, meanwhile Song reprograms a computer at the police station while a confused Larry asks what's wrong, so Song butterfly tells him to know how He and Song were great friends and he leaves, then Locke arrives and locks up Peacemaker's diary. Economos in the store explains to the team how he accessed all the security cameras and how he discovered the Coverdale Ranch, suspecting that the amber liquid came from there, Peacemaker begins to complain, not understanding what was happening and since no one explained to him, Murn finally asked everyone to go do their work while Peacemaker watched Adebayo feeling bad.
During the night, Song is outside until the butterflies arrive in their spaceships, upon landing they begin to celebrate their queen Eek Stack Ik Ik, meanwhile Auggie meets his minions at home and heads to his quantum headquarters, the butterflies are led by Song to the Evergreen Police Department while Smith heads to change back into his White Dragon suit. The butterflies in the police station begin to kill all the policemen, including Larry who tries to escape without success, in his room Locke tries to defend himself but a butterfly enters him killing him, all the policemen begin to convulse while more butterflies enter the prisons and begin to kill the prisoners and guards, once killed, they all leave the police station smiling in a creepy way. Meanwhile, the White Dragon returns having finished putting on the suit while all his followers idolize him.
At her apartment, Leota feels bad about betraying Peacemaker feeling not done for the job, Keeya tries to comfort her by telling her that she doesn't owe anyone and that they should go back to Gotham City. In the store, Harcourt tattoos the peace logo on Smith's gun, to which Peacemaker arrives asking for Adebayo to which Harcourt replies that she left and hands him the gun with his logo, Peacemaker however says he doesn't feel well anymore killing people, Harcourt says to not to believe that he was a bad person anymore along with her name which he previously asked her, Smith then goes to the piano and starts playing the "Home Sweet Home" song, remembering the legacy of his brother. Shortly after, Vigilante approaches him and they go to watch television discovering Locke was revealing what the diary contained, which framed him for the murder of multiple crimes, Locke ends the statement by saying that all police stations would go in search of stopping Peacemaker, Smith then gets confused.
In a post-credit scene, Locke tries very hard to do a sad face after killing the policemen, he then asks one of the corpses if he was doing it right and laughs, he later refocuses and tries again.
