Max (formerly HBO Max) is a subscription-based streaming service owned by WarnerMedia that launched on May 27, 2020. The current DC Extended Universe films can be found on a rotation of availability on the service, but it's also developing its own DC Comics media exclusively for the platform. It is the exclusive home for Zack Snyder's Justice League and Peacemaker.

History[]

This section requires expansion

On November 18th, 2020 it was confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 would be available on HBO Max alongside its theatrical release.[1]

On December 3rd, 2020, it was revealed that The Suicide Squad would follow Wonder Woman 1984's release strategy, along with Warner Brother's entire 2021 slate of movies.[2]

On December 27th, 2020, Walter Hamada claimed their goal, in addition to producing more expensive theatrical films, is to produce two HBO Max exclusive films based on DC Comics characters each year. These films would be cheaper to produce than their theatrical counterparts and would feature characters that aren't quite as likely to be successful. The examples given were Batgirl and Static Shock, though it's unclear if these were presented by Hamada or the article author. Hamada also went on to state that Warner Bros. would work with filmmakers to produce series spinoffs from every theatrical release, at least when it makes sense to do so. This has already been demonstrated to be the case with Peacemaker, a spin-off from The Suicide Squad, and GCPD, a spin-off/prequel from The Batman.[3]
