Martians are a race of intelligent green-skinned humanoids hailing from the planet Mars. They possess the powers of shape-shifting and telepathy. The species was all but wiped out at some point in the past.

The only known Martian left alive is the Martian Manhunter, who went to hide on Earth as a human named Calvin Swanwick for many years.

Orson Welles' The War of the Worlds radio drama depicted the scenario of a Martian invasion. In 1938, such radio drama panicked listeners who believe it to be a real-world report of a Martian invasion.[1]

At some point before 2013[2] a Martian named J'onn J'onzz was, for unknown reasons, on Earth and took the appearance of a human named Calvin Swanwick. Such disguise was maintained until 2017, where he revealed himself to Bruce Wayne.[3]

The Martian anatomy is outwardly humanoid, but there are clear distinctions between them and Humans, such as green skin, bright red eyes and elongated heads in their true form. Inwardly, there are even more differences, with the Martians having many more great abilities than humans do.

  • Shape-shifting: Martians are able to change their appearance or form at will to resemble any other being, as Martian Manhunter was able to masquerade as a human for many years without being exposed.
  • Telepathy: Martians possess telepathic abilities to an unknown degree.
  • Flight: Martians are able to fly through the air under their own volition, just like Kryptonians.
