Lois Lane was the lover of Superman and the mother of his unborn child, who was killed by Darkseid during his conquest of Earth. It was her death that caused a devastated Superman to be manipulated by the Anti-Life Equation.

Lane is found dead by Superman.
In a dark potential future, Darkseid returned to Earth to conquer it, this time with the Anti-Life Equation. He fought the Justice League once more, and he killed the pregnant Lois in the Batcave. Her death had an impact on Superman and was to be the main cause for Darkseid's takeover of the planet, as her death made the distraught Man of Steel susceptible to Darkseid's mind control, causing him to ally himself with Darkseid, becoming his second-in-command in his conquest of the planet.[1]
