Lebanon, officially known as the Lebanese Republic, is a country in west Asia, bordered by Syria to the northeast, and Israel to the south.

20th Century[]
From 1975 to 1990, a civil war between various militant groups and political organizations in Lebanon occurred, supported by several countries. Additionally, Lebanese forces engaged in warfare against Israel, who invaded and occupied the country in 1982. During the war, Yasser Arafat, a chairman of the PLO, sought to combat the invasion but was reported to have lost many battalions under his command, forcing him to ask for a truce to save Tripoli from suffering further from the conflict. The Washington Times published an article mentioning this on November 9th, 1983.
