The Kidnapping of Van Criss was an attack on orchestrated by the Joker. In order to deactivate Harley Quinn's nano-bomb neck implant, so she could be successfully rescued, Joker needed the help of its creator, scientist Van Criss. Joker's gang broke into Van Criss Laboratories to kidnap him.

Background

Due to the nano-bomb implanted in Harley Quinn's neck, Joker would be unable to free her from ARGUS and the Task Force X mission in which she was participating on their behalf, so he needed to deactivate it. Panda Man drove up to the security checkpoint, explaining that he'd been hired to surprise Van Criss with a gift basket, which he was to deliver in his full panda costume. Anticipating they wouldn't be let through, the gift basket was rigged with explosives. It was left with the security guard, then immediately detonated. Joker and Jonny Frost emerged from the back of Panda Man's van, the former finishing off the guard before the group stormed Van Criss Laboratories, quickly joined by the rest of Joker's gang.[1]

The assailants rampaged through the lab with little resistance until arriving at Van Criss' office, where he was protected by bulletproof glass. Joker revealed they'd already taken Van Criss' wife hostage, and so the scientist allowed them in, where they were able to capture him.[2]

Aftermath

By successfully kidnapping Van Criss, Joker was able to force him to deactivate Harley Quinn's nano-bomb and free her from ARGUS' confinement.[2]
