Karim is the uncle of Amon Tomaz and the younger brother of Adrianna Tomaz. During their fight against Intergang, Karim helped his sister to retrieve an eternium totem, eventually allying with Samir and Ishmael Gregor to find the Crown of Sabbac, and releasing the champion Teth-Adam, who saved the family and helped them in their fight. When Karim was betrayed and shot by Gregor, he was saved by the Justice Society, later joining forces with the team and the entire city to fight the Legions of Hell, freeing Kahndaq from oppression.

Around 1996, Karim and his older sister Adrianna Tomaz lived through a coup in Kahndaq, which was eventually followed by multiple military usurps. Growing up, Karim graduated as an electrician and began working for Shiruta Electronics, receiving a van from the company. Karim also inherited a T-shirt from his grandmother which he named "Primal", considering it his favorite one. At some point, Karim took a picture with his wild hair on his driver's license due to a breakup with his girlfriend. In 2021, Karim and Adrianna suffered a coup again, by Intergang, who began to oppress the nation and led Karim to unite with Adrianna to start a rebellion.[1]

Karim was with Amon and Adrianna Tomaz making a long line for an event, seeing Amon's frustration, Karim went to buy Big Belly burgers to share with him, and upon returning, Karim surprised him with two burgers. Adrianna then warned Karim that she had to leave due to an emergency, asking him to use his truck, but he felt nervous since planning to go on a date later, winking at a woman in line. Tomaz finally took his keys out of his pocket without him noticing and walked away, surpring Karim who threw his burger to check his pocket.[2]

Karim took Amon Tomaz skateboarding with other kids, until a friend showed up asking for Adrianna Tomaz, who was just then calling Karim, surprised that he was talking about her and the man asking if he could give him Adrianna's number, to which Karim refused. Since Karim didn't come to answer her call, he listened to her voice messages, discovering that she was in danger as she was being persecuted by Intergang.

Karim found out about the totem which Adrianna got, and hid it in a container with his phone to be tracked due to Tomaz being captured, so Karim invited Amon to search, using the phone finder app, managing to find the totem location in the tunnels of Kahndaqi University, except only someone small could search for it, but when the soldiers were about to catch them, Karim ordered Amon to find the totem, buying time for his nephew to hide and he ended up being captured by the soldiers from Intergang, asking if they wanted his leather shirt.[3]

With his capture, Karim had to begrudgingly hand over his leather shirt to a soldier in exchange for his freedom, complaining about losing his shirt and being thrown out onto the streets in front of people, waving to a group of women walking past him. When Karim got up, he took his phone to urgently call Amon and find out if he was okay during the search for him, however, the call was useless because Amon had no connection where he was.[4]

Karim met with Amon and Adrianna in his truck, shocked that she became Intergang's most wanted person. Karim refused to talk about his stolen shirt, before watching Adrianna use the eternium totem, showing a map, which spoke of the connection between the Rock of Eternity and some hidden pyramids in the desert, where the Crown of Sabbac was hidden.[4] Over the next few days, Karim, Adrianna, and Amon had to hide from Intergang, allying with Samir and Ishmael Gregor to find the Crown of Sabbac.[1]

Having planned the operation to find the crown, Karim took the team in his truck, hiding Adrianna Tomaz and planning a distraction with Amon Tomaz, upon reaching the checkpoint area north of Shiruta, Karim handed over his identification to a soldier from Intergang, mentioning that he looked bad in his photo because of his breakup with his girlfriend.

When Amon arrived to distract the soldiers, Karim laughed at his performance, taking the opportunity to request to leave without having his truck inspected when the soldier began to argue with Amon, managing to escape to the Kahndaq desert, for which Karim called Adrianna to come out of hiding. During the trip, Karim overheard Gregor, Adrianna, and Samir talking about Adrianna's eternium necklace, with Karim complaining that he only inherited a shirt.

Adrianna said to Karim that he also inherited the truck and his father's bald head, to which Karim accepting that he is going bald but mentioning that bald men are more attractive, before beginning to touch his hair with concern. In the morning, the team arrived at a cave in the desert in search of the crown, so Samir asked Karim if he would come with them, but Karim refused mentioning that his knee hurt, putting on a cassette to listen to "Baby Come Back" and sing it.
Karim surrenders to Intergang.
Suddenly, Karim was scared to see Samir fall from a cliff, getting seriously injured, so Karim paused his music and desperately got out of his truck to help him and ask him what happened, but without being able to hear him as he died, so that later Karim saw several Intergang soldiers arrive and kill Samir, with Karim peacefully surrendering.

Karim was used as a hostage by the Intergang soldiers, being taken to the cave, where Adrianna had found the Crown of Sabbac, along with Gregor, Karim was pointed with the gun of an Intergang soldier who threatened to kill them if they did not deliver the corona, until Tomaz showed up just in time to deliver it, frustrating Karim for waiting until the last bit. After Adrianna read a manuscript from a tomb, Karim and his sister were saved by Kahndaq's former champion, Teth-Adam, who saved both their lives while he was fighting Intergang soldiers, Karim and Adrianna then took the opportunity to escape during the massacre, leaving behind Gregor who was taken for dead.

Karim and Adrianna Tomaz escaped to the van, while Karim was still terrified that they tried to kill him and the deaths of Samir and Gregor, along with the release of Teth-Adam, complaining that it was all for nothing, however Karim was relieved to realize that Adrianna got the crown. Karim and Adrianna tried to flee in the truck until Adam finished slaughtering all the soldiers, parking in front of him and rolling up the windows in fear as Adam approached them.

When a surviving soldier fired an eternium missile at Adam, Karim warned him by telling him to look back, then wondering how Adam caught the missile until it exploded. When Adam left, Karim was relieved to never see him again, only to realize that Adam had fallen due to the Eternium. Karim and Tomaz got out to help him, with Karim stopping Adrianna from touching Adam because he was surrounded by lightning, to which Adrianna told him that she will take him to the truck since he was an electrician.[1]

Returning to their residence, Karim and Adrianna left a passed out Teth-Adam in Amon's room while they figured out how to heal him. While Adrianna was researching the Crown of Sabbac, Karim watched The Good, the Bad and the Ugly with the crown on without her noticing, making Adrianna angry when she saw him, who took it off and warned him that the crown was made by demons.

When Adrianna discovered that the crown had a manuscript "Life is the only way to death", Karim responded wryly. Suddenly, Adam woke up breaking through the wall by destroying it and breaking the television Karim was watching believing it to be wizardry, with Karim trying to calm him down in fear by saying that he could fix it but he wasn't a wizard. When Adam mistook Karim as Adrianna's husband, they both corrected him by saying they were brothers, Karim then stayed at the house while Amon and Adrianna went to find Adam when he left.[1]

While Karim was in the kitchen, he was assaulted by Ishmael Gregor who managed to survive and entered the residence in search of the Crown of Sabbac, discovering his betrayal. When Amon Tomaz entered the residence, Karim asked his nephew to leave to protect the Crown of Sabbac, before Gregor threatened them with his pistol, demanding to see the relic.
Karim is shot by Ishmael Gregor.
Karim and Amon Tomaz then heard Gregor talk about the great power that the Crown of Sabbac had to regain greatness in Kahndaq, so Karim took advantage of the fact that Gregor was distracted to attack him by pushing him against the wall, allowing Amon to escape with the crown, however Karim ended up being shot in the stomach by Gregor.
Karim is put to sleep by Kent Nelson.
Threw on the ground and suffering pain, Karim believed that he was going to die until he saw the sorcerer Kent Nelson arrive through the window, who tried to calm him down because he would not die that way. Karim asked him how long he had left to live, with Nelson revealing that he was going to die from electricity, causing him to freak out because he was an electrician, so Nelson put him to sleep due to his high altitude at Karim's death.
Karim is cured by Maxine Hunkel.
Karim was taken by Nelson to the Hawk Cruiser where he was tended to by Maxine Hunkel, who put him on a stretcher and used her nanobots to heal the bullet shot to Karim's stomach, keeping him asleep for hours so he could rest. The next day, Karim woke up to hear the Justice Society, Adrianna and Teth-Adam's plan to save Amon in the Al Hadidiyah Mine after he was kidnapped by Gregor, with Karim staying to wait on the ship while his comrades were going to confront Gregor at the mine.[1]

After Amon was rescued and Teth-Adam voluntarily imprisoned himself, Karim with his family and the Society returned to Kahndaq until they discovered that Ishmael Gregor had returned with the powers of the crown, trying to stop him upon reaching Shiruta, but the Hawk Cruiser being destroyed, managing to survive the crash. As the Society battled Gregor, Karim squeezed into a fleeing crowd in panic as he searched for Amon and Adrianna.
Karim fights against the Legions of Hell.
Karim returned to the Tomaz residence to search for his truck, watching from a distance as Gregor unleashed the Legions of Hell. Karim drove to the streets where the battle was taking place, finding Adrianna and Amon surrounded by Legions of Hell, which he ran over and prepared to fight while listening to "Baby Come Back" at full volume on the radio and singing it, Karim told his family that he would die electrocuted while fighting with a crowbar against the demons.

Karim then received the help of his sister to fight the Legions, to later observe how Amon arrived with the people of Kahndaq after he convinced them to fight, Karim and the population continued fighting against the demons, until Hawkman and Teth-Adam managed to assassinate Ishmael Gregor, vanishing all the Legions of Hell, so Karim and the people began to celebrate the victory, with Kahndaq finally being free.[1]

After the battle, Karim and his family gathered at Kahndaq's palace, promising the Justice Society to keep Adam out of trouble if no one came to bother him, saying goodbye to the team. Karim and his family later watched with pride and happiness as Teth-Adam decided to reject the throne as ruler of Kahndaq and opted to be the protector of the nation, with them admiring his decision, Karim and his family then listened as Adam decided to nickname himself "Black Adam".[1]

Karim remains a relaxed and humorous man, as well as someone looking to find a relationship with a woman after breaking up with his partner, which led him initially to neglect his hair and start listening to music about his breakup. Karim was understanding with his nephew Amon Tomaz when they had to stand in line, buying him a hamburger so he wouldn't get bored.
After his country was invaded by Intergang, Karim was sympathetic to the situation and began helping his sister find the eternium totem and the Crown of Sabbac, befriending Samir along the way and becoming desperate when he was killed. Karim also proved to be brave risking his life by confronting Ishmael Gregor so that Amon could escape, when he threatened them with a weapon, also when he decided to face the Legions of Hell to free Kahndaq from oppression.
