Kandor was the capital and largest city on the planet Krypton. It contained almost the entire population of the planet within it.[4][5]

History[]

Founding[]

Kandor was founded thousands of years ago, when the ancient Kryptonians advanced far enough along to warrant urbanization. It consistently grew larger over countless generations, over time becoming the dominant settlement of the planet.[1]

End of Krypton[]

Thousands of years later, Jor-El traveled to Kandor for a council with the Kryptonian Law Council about Krypton's impending core collapse due to the thousands of years of strip mining, arguing that the planet must be evacuated. Just as they denied his request, General Dru-Zod blasted his way into the chamber in a coup d'état. He had Jor-El arrested while he shot High Eminence Ro-Zar. Jor-El escaped and stole the Growth Codex, retreating to his homestead Citadel outside of Kandor.[2]

After his defeat, General Zod and his followers were brought back to Kandor for trial. They were sentenced to the Phantom Zone as a result. Kandor was then destroyed when Krypton imploded.[2]

A Magical Entrance[]

At some point, Billy Batson and the rest of his family apparently discovered a magical doorway into Kandor, accessible via the Rock of Eternity. They noted the location upon a sketched out board along with other noteworthy locations with their own doorways such as Themyscira, Beck World and Crocodile Land.[6]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • In the DC Comics universe, Kandor was shrunken and stolen by the supervillain Brainiac, several years before the planet was destroyed. Upon its recovery by Superman, it has been traditionally kept and monitored in the Fortress of Solitude.
