"Men are still good; we fight, we kill, we betray one another - but we can rebuild. We can do better. We will, we have to."
Bruce Wayne to Diana[src]

Humans, also known as Homo Sapiens, Terrans to the Ko'erst and Landsmen or Surface Dwellers to the Atlanteans, are a bipedal hominid species being the main of Earth, ahead of metahumans, Atlanteans or Homo Magi. They were created over 200 millennia ago by the Olympian King Zeus.

They are a sister species to the Atlanteans, the sea-dwelling inhabitants of Atlantis, and, as a collective, possess several unique genetic traits that allow a small number of them to become powerful Metahumans. A smaller subspecies of humans known as Homo Magi can also naturally channel magical energies.

Mankind Corrupted

Humanity after their corruption by Ares.

Many millennia ago, Zeus, King of the Old Gods, created humanity from the ape, making them in the gods' likeness, and imbuing them with their virtues. However, Zeus' son Ares began corrupting humanity with war and violence, so Zeus created a new race - the Amazons, who were intended to protect humanity from Ares' influence, while spreading love and compassion amongst them.[1]

Invasion of Earth[]

Millennia before the Black Zero Event, the fall of Atlantis and the subjugation of the Amazons; various human tribes, Amazons, Atlanteans, the Old Gods, and a member of the Green Lantern Corps joined forces in fighting off an invasion by Darkseid and his massive army of Parademons. The battle resulted in Darkseid's first and only defeat and left him critically injured, forcing him to flee when his forces and armada were decimated. As they retreated, three Mother Boxes were left behind, and each of the three factions that helped save Earth would take one and hide their respective box.[2]

World War I[]

"You're wrong about them. They're everything you say, but so much more."
Diana describing her view of humanity to Ares[src]

During World War I, the Allied Powers were at war with the Central Powers. The Allies consisted of Russia, Serbia, France, Britain, Belgium and the United States, and the Central Powers consisted of Germany, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. When Ares manipulated Isabel Maru into creating a deadly gas to destroy mankind, his plan was foiled and stopped by Wonder Woman and the Wonder Men. Later, the war ended after the Allies defeated the Central Powers.[1]

Black Zero Event[]

In 2013, General Dru-Zod and the Sword of Rao planned to terraform Earth's environment into one similar to Krypton's with a machine called Black Zero, which would kill every human on the planet. One of the Kryptonian survivors on Earth, Kal-El, stopped the Black Zero and killed Zod, while the members of the Sword of Rao were imprisoned again in the Phantom Zone after a destructive battle in Metropolis.[3] While humanity was saved, the subsequent battle revealed the existence of extraterrestrials, particularly Kryptonians to the world.

Second Invasion of Earth[]

"So, you have the blood of the Old Gods in you. The Old Gods died."
Steppenwolf to Wonder Woman[src]

In 2017, a team of six individuals called the Justice League assembled to combat against Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons. They successfully prevented him from conquering Earth and destroyed the Mother Boxes after a battle in northern Russia.[2]

Humans are distinguished from other primates by their bipedal locomotion, and well-developed brain, which enables high levels of abstract reasoning, language, problem-solving, and culture through social learning. Human biology is considered to be fairly average for galactic standards. Humans, however, do carry the genetic potential to become one of the most powerful races in the universe, however, human physiology is years away from this level of power.

Humans use tools to a much higher degree than any other animal of Earth (due to Zeus having created them in the image of the Old Gods themselves), and are the only extant species known to build fires and cook their food, as well as the only known species to clothe themselves and create and use numerous other technologies and arts. The scientific study of humans is the discipline of anthropology. Hence, even Kryptonian alien Jor-El saw humans as the perfect race for his son Kal-El to live among and protect (notably considering them more open-minded than Kryptonians), following the destruction of Krypton.[3]
