Galaxy Broadcasting System, also known as WGBS News or GBS, is a news company headquartered in Metropolis.
History[]
Black Zero Event[]
Superman and General Dru-Zod flew past the WGBS building during their final battle in Metropolis in 2013.[1]
Attack on the Surface World[]
In 2018, Arthur and Thomas Curry watched a WGBS news report at the bar in Amnesty Bay about the theft of a high-tech prototype U.S. Navy submarine. Later, marine biologist Stephen Shin was interviewed by WGBS News to explain his theories on Atlantis after a phenomenon that resulted in warships and decades of marine waste being reversed onto land.[2]
Reporting on Philadelphia[]
WGBS News also reported several events in Philadelphia like Shazam's rescue of a bus and the battle at the Christmas Village.[3] They also reported on a hostage situation that occurred at the Independence Hall.[4]
Metahumans-Monster Battle Spurs Political Unrest[]
In 2020, when Starro rampaged through Valle Del Mar, WGBS covered the event live. Tyla DuBois happened to notice her father (who was supposedly in prison) on the screen. After Starro was defeated, rebel leader Sol Soria was interviewed on WGBS after she and her army of freedom fighters toppled the military dictatorship of Corto Maltese, allowing free elections.[5]
"Philly Fiascos" Destroy Bridge[]
In Philadelphia, Billy Batson and his "Shazamily" of foster siblings saved people on the collapsing Benjamin Franklin Bridge, but were called out by WGBS out for causing its destruction.[6]
Kord Takes Over Kord Industries[]
Following the death of Victoria Kord, WGBS interviewed Jenny Kord upon becoming the new CEO of Kord Industries.[7]
Global Temperatures Spiking Unexpectedly[]
In 2022, WGBS reported on the rise of global temperatures around the world, caused by the use of Orichalcum by Black Manta. The change in climate caused several weather events and natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, and flooding to occur. [8]
Atlantis Rises[]
GBS reported on Aquaman revealing Atlantis to the world while seeking collaboration with the United Nations.[9]
Behind the Scenes[]
- In DC Comics, WGBS News is owned by Morgan Edge. Both of them also have connections to Darkseid.
- An alternate ending for the film Shazam! shows WGBS reporting on a hostage situation occurring at Independence Hall which alerts the Shazam Family and forces them to go off to handle the situation.
