- "Three days ago, a non-human entity appeared in the subway station. So Waller sent me and a woman with incredible abilities. A witch. See, nobody could get near this thing, but the witch could... Needless to say, the whole thing was a bad idea."
- ―Rick Flag to Task Force X[src]
The Escape of Enchantress was a successful release of the interdimensional sorceress Enchantress from the custody of Amanda Waller, in order to start her attempted worldwide genocide with her brother Incubus.
Background[]
- "She opened something she shouldn't have. Releasing a metahuman more powerful than any we've encountered: Enchantress. [...] She enhabits Dr. Moone's body now."
- ―Amanda Waller[src]
Several millennia ago, the interdimensional beings Enchantress and Incubus left their dimension and arrived in a region of South America during prehistoric times, being worshipped as gods due to their powers until a point came when their subjects turned against the siblings for their way of ruling and locked them in two artifacts at the bottom of the Tres Osos Caves, Peru; where they would remain locked for several centuries and as the centuries passed on, the siblings were forgotten in history forever.
Eventually in the present, archaeologist June Moone went to the cave for an investigation, accidentally destroying Enchantress' Artifact, causing the witch to come out and possess her body, although Moone could control her. Upon learning of Enchantress's presence in Moone, the director of the government agency A.R.G.U.S., Amanda Waller, became interested in her, so she sent Colonel Rick Flag to save her, allowing the two to form a romantic relationship. With Moone in her possession, Waller used her for her personal missions, keeping the sorceress' heart hidden and thought of using her as a possible recruit for her team of special individuals, Task Force X, before members of the Pentagon.[1]
Escape[]
- "Amanda, she bolted."
"Say it again?"
"SHE BOLTED!" - ―Rick Flag and Amanda Waller[src]
While sleeping, June Moone was manipulated by Enchantress into saying her name, causing her to manifest in front of Rick Flag, who held her at gunpoint as she attempted to call Amanda Waller, but after Enchantress showed him a vision of Moone dying, Flag was forced to end the call, watching as Enchantress teleported away to view Moone's old files, discovering Incubus' Artifact, which she took. At the Midway City Train Terminal, executive Gerard Davis was in the bathroom before sensing the presence of Enchantress, who released his brother's soul from the container to use Davis as her host.
After turning back into Moone, Davis made his way through the train station, collapsing to the ground, being helped by several people, though Incubus took control, grabbing them with his tentacles to fuse with them as he transformed into his monstrous form and destroying a subway. Concerned about the situation with Incubus, General Edwards immediately ordered Task Force X to be activated to deal with the threat, temporarily sending several soldiers to try and attack Incubus, however he was able to eliminate them all with ease.
Down by the trains, Flag and Moone headed off to help, realizing that Enchantress was the only one who could stop him, convincing her lover to turn once again, something Moone agreed to. Flag activated a bomb set to explode in two seconds to cause Enchantress to attack Incubus, but to his surprise, Enchantress escaped from Flag's custody, leaving him with the bomb, which he was able to deactivate, discovering that the witch was in league with Incubus and quickly reported the situation to Waller, who was in Midway City, and in response, Waller struck Enchantress's heart in an attempt to kill her after her betrayal.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "What happened?"
"Terror attack. Dirty bombs, bad guys shooting up the place with AKs. You know, usual shit." - ―Floyd Lawton and Rick Flag[src]
After finally escaping A.R.G.U.S., Enchantress met up with Incubus at the Midway City Train Terminal to save her life, receiving a new surge of power from her brother, to whom she told her plan to create a weapon that would destroy humanity after they betrayed them, promising that she would get her heart back and took the terminal as her base, casting a spell on the entire city, turning most of the people into the Eyes of the Adversary while Incubus killed the military and police who tried to stop them.
Because Amanda Waller was in the middle of danger in Midway City, Rick Flag took it upon himself to lead Task Force X, taking them to Midway City International Airport with a group of NAVY SEALs, explaining the mission of rescuing HVT1, in exchange for reducing their sentences at the Belle Reve Correctional Center, an offer that the entire team accepted. Following Waller's kidnapping by Incubus and his subordinates, Flag was confronted by Floyd Lawton to confess the truth about Enchantress' escape and how Midway City became a zone of chaos, as he had lied to them that it was an alleged terrorist attack.[1]
