After broadcasting a warning message to Earth requesting the surrender of a Kryptonian, General Dru-Zod and the Sword of Rao deployed their flagship, the Black Zero, above Edwards Air Force Base, causing the media communications to announce their arrival. Later, Zod and Commander Faora-Ul descended to the outskirts of the base in a big Kryptonian Dropship where a group of the United States Army was waiting for them. However, seeing that the military did not bring the Kryptonian with them, Zod took it as a declaration of war, assassinating General Calvin Swanwick and initiating a battle between the military and the Sword of Rao.[2]

A massive battle unfolds at Edwards Air Force Base.
Kara Zor-El, who observed the conflict from the sky, allied herself with two versions of Barry Allen and Batman, heading to the military base with the intention of defeating Dru-Zod. While Supergirl confronted his adversary in a floating platform, Batman remained airborne aboard the Batwing and the Flashes engaged with the Sword of Rao. Eventually, Batman sacrificed himself in an attempt to destroy the big Kryptonian Dropship, crashing the Batwing against it, and Supergirl ended up being killed by Zod, prompting the Flashes to go back in time with the Chronobowl several times, in an attempt to save his friends but always failing.[2]
