"Yes. Mighty Steppenwolf, who might have sat here by the side of the great one. But undone by his self-pride."

DeSaad is an ancient New God who is extremely loyal to Darkseid, acting as one of his closest followers. He is a scientist and one of Darkseid's advisors. He assisted Steppenwolf in his invasion of Earth in 2017.

Serving Darkseid

DeSaad became a loyal follower of Darkseid, before he ascended to the throne of his homeworld Apokolips, and was devoted to him, during the second invasion thousands of years later. DeSaad communicated to Steppenwolf, Darkseid's uncle and herald who lead the charge of the fight against Earth's champions, vital information and orders from their master.[1]

In 2017, when Steppenwolf invaded Earth, he communicated with DeSaad several times from his base, updating him on the process of acquiring the Mother Boxes, while DeSaad relayed orders from Uxas, now known as Darkseid.

When Steppenwolf revealed he had discovered that Earth housed the Anti-Life Equation, the shocked DeSaad withdrew, allowing Darkseid to talk to his exiled general.

Later, DeSaad was present with Granny Goodness when Darkseid prepared to boom tube to Earth, only for the League to repel the Unity and defeat Steppenwolf. As his servant asked what Darkseid planned to do next, the latter responded with the command for DeSaad to prepare the Apokolitian Armada.[1]
