"This is the Evergreen Police Department! Open the door and come out with your hands up now!"
Sophie Song to Peacemaker[src]

The Chase of Peacemaker and Vigilante was the Evergreen Police Department's attempted arrest of Christopher Smith for the murder of Annie Sturphausen.

Background[]

"Captain, last night, I took all the evidence to a judge..."
"You took what to what?"
"...and I was issued an arrest warrant for Christopher Smith, our new key suspect in the murder of Annie Sturphausen."

Following the murder of Annie Sturphausen, Evergreen Police Department officers Sophie Song and Larry Fitzgibbon initiated a case to determine the cause, assuming that Auggie Smith was responsible after an arduous investigation, which led to his imprisonment.[1] After learning that he was framed by his son Christopher's team, Smith insisted that Song and Fitzgibbon conduct another investigation to prove his innocence, and Song agreed to do so after seeing that Smith's and Christopher's fingerprints were different.

After discovering that Smith was indeed framed, Song considered releasing him to arrest Christopher. However, the new Captain Caspar Locke, an infiltrator for "Clemson Murn," prevented her from doing so. Song sought help elsewhere, meeting with her uncle and Judge William Judy, asking him for help in obtaining an arrest warrant for Christopher after showing him the evidence in the case.[2] The next day, Smith was released from prison, catching Locke's attention, who confronted Song about her defiance. Song stated that they couldn't have two criminals for the same crime, preparing the police officers to go after Christopher.[3]

At the police station, the Evergreen Police Department, led by Sophie Song, prepared several weapons to go after Christopher Smith, something that Caspar Locke noticed and informed "Clemson Murn" of the situation. Already at Smith's trailer, the officers silently approached to pursue him. "Murn" quickly called Adrian Chase to warn Smith that the police were approaching his house with an arrest warrant, worrying Smith, who saw the police approaching through the window and initiated an escape plan with Chase while Song ordered Smith's surrender.

Smith lured Eagly out of the house to evade capture, helping Chase get inside after strapping the bottle containing the Butterfly Eek Stack Ik Ik to his waistband. With no answers, Song ordered the officers to enter the house, realizing Smith was nowhere to be seen, frustrating Song, who ordered a search of all the trailers for Smith. During the search, Johnson found a purported journal belonging to Smith, which contained conspiracy theories, traumatizing the officer. From the trees, Smith prevented Chase from killing Song for being a police officer before whistling so that Eagly wouldn't be found by the officers.

Seeing Eagly fly away, Song contacted Larry Fitzgibbon to confirm if Smith had a pet eagle, ordering the troops to head into the woods, where Smith might be. When Song entered the woods, Smith and Chase attempted to flee through the woods while Smith asked Chase to escape in his car, though Chase revealed he came in an Uber, thinking they were going to drink. He tried to say this silently, causing him to fall to the ground, and Song discovered him. Chase's fall caused the flask of Ik Ik to shatter and head toward Song, killing her and taking her as its new host.

The duo became concerned about the situation before being discovered by Peggy Sacks, who called the rest of the police to catch them, causing Smith and Chase to begin escaping through the woods while the officers pursued them. During the chase, Chase had to throw a knife at the police officer, angering Smith because he warned him that they couldn't kill police officers while still running away. When police officers began appearing everywhere, Eagly flew toward the duo, attacking them to keep them escaping, earning Chase's respect for the eagle's prowess.

Locke kills the police officers

Smith and Chase made it further, but were ambushed by three police officers. Instead of killing them, Smith was powerless to change his mind until Locke appeared, killing the officer and explaining that there was a getaway car just outside the woods. After receiving his help, Smith and Chase continued running towards the car while Smith watched in horror as the police and the unconscious officer were brutally murdered by Locke. Successfully, the duo made it to the car, pulling Eagly into the vehicle and escaping with Chase.[3]

After escaping, Peacemaker argued with Vigilante about killing the police officers, despite Chase supporting Caspar Locke. Smith stopped the car to take Chase's phone after Chase destroyed his own in a mix-up, and was able to contact Emilia Harcourt. In the Henenlotter Video, Smith revealed that Eek Stack Ik Ik had taken over Sophie Song's body, angering "Clemson Murn" because Smith had hidden Ik Ik behind the 11th Street Kids' backs. However, Smith confronted his leader for sending Locke to help them, emphasizing that Locke murdered the innocent officers and claiming to have felt sorry for them until John Economos interrupted them.

At the same time, Ik Ik, now in Song's body, deceived Larry Fitzgibbon after discovering that Locke was an infiltrated ally of the 11th Street Kids, leading him to decide to contact all the Butterflies to gain an army, confusing Fitzgibbon with his behavior. Officer Johnson gave Smith's journal to Locke, who informed "Murn" that he would hide the supposed journal in his office at the police station.[3]
