"I have armor, too, and a respirator. I can breathe where there's no oxygen. Can you?"
"Yes."
Firefly and Batman[src]

The Capture of Firefly was the imprisonment of the tech criminal known as Firefly and two of his henchmen, including Sal.

Background[]

"I was your age when he showed up. All about finesse back then. Half the time you wouldn't even set eyes on him. One minute you're doing a job... next thing you know, it's all over."
Sal to Henchmen[src]

Sal is shot down by Batman.

During his early days as Gotham City's vigilante, Bruce Wayne devoted himself to stopping criminals by employing his stealth skills so as to be barely seen. In his youth, Sal was quietly apprehended by Batman, who tied him to the top of a building in a matter of minutes. Over the years, Batman would soon adopt a brutal form of justice, transforming into his most violent self, eventually intervening in a robbery executed by Pete Doumanian, breaking his legs, forcing him to retire from crime for good.[1]

Hired by a client to detonate an entire building, the criminal arsonist known as Firefly teamed up with Sal and an ex-military criminal to plant the charges in a back cellar. Believing they had finished their job, the ex-military man was angrily confronted by Firefly, before Sal intervened. During a conversation, Sal explained that Batman had, over time, meted out a brutal form of justice, recalling how he had been tied up in a building, or the robbery of Pete Doumanian that ended with his legs. Soon after finishing his job, Firefly ordered his partners to stand down to implode the explosives.

Suddenly, a Batarang stopped Firefly from detonating the explosives, and Batman then appeared behind the team to destroy the detonator. Using a flamethrower, Firefly boasted about his armor that allowed him to breathe oxygen, only to be surprised by a respirator used by Batman. Furious, the Dark Knight proceeded to beat him severely, destroying his armor completely. Seeing the brutality of the event, Sal and the ex-military man were unable to shoot Batman, throwing their weapons to the ground. Quickly, Sal and his partner were knocked unconscious to be tied up by Batman and handed over to the Gotham City Police Department.[1]

Aftermath[]

"Bats roughed up these guys pretty good, huh?"
"Sure did.."
"And I'll tell you something else... I pity anyone that guy sets his sights on. The way he is now... who could possibly have a chance of taking him down?"

Shocked by the successful capture, a pair of Gotham City Police Department officers took pity on all the criminals Batman had ever targeted, wondering who might stand a chance against him. Unbeknownst to them, the event was recorded on closed-circuit television by Lex Luthor, who watched as Batman captured and delivered the criminals. By analyzing and studying the Bat's skills, abilities, and combat techniques, Luthor was able to disprove his own rumors that Batman was a supernatural and inhuman being.[1]
