Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Hawkman is a 48-page prequel comic tie-in for Black Adam. It serves as the first issue in the Black Adam - The Justice Society Files series.

Synopsis[]

Long ago, Hawkman was the leader of the Justice Society, but what is he now? Still a hero, or another relic in a museum? Everything changes when he finds himself haunted by not only the past, but also the vengeful spirit of a wayward thief. Will this Gentleman Ghost be the death of Hawkman or will he deliver a warning from beyond the grave? The road to Black Adam begins here.

Also in this issue: As a pivotal moment in the life of Teth-Adam and his son Hurut begins to unfold in ancient Kahndaq, modern-day Kahndaq meets a new hero - antiquities professor by day, “cultural recovery specialist” by night, Adrianna Tomaz. And unfortunately for Adrianna, she’s about to “liberate” a sacred totem from the wrong interested party - Intergang!

Hawkman was flying until he is contacted by Jeremy asking him to attend the mineral exhibition at the St. Roch Museum, upon arrival Hawkman transformed into his civilian form and entered the museum where upon entering he heard some people talking about the Justice Society admitting not remembering Hawkman, soon Hall meets with Jeremy who shows him the relic known as The Champion, being amazed at how it was made of a small part by eternium. In that an explosion occurs and Hall finds out that someone stole the relic, so he transforms into Hawkman and decides to chase the thief, who soon escapes in an Intergang ship and starts shooting at him, Hawkman defends himself and throws his mallet in the face causing him to lose the steering wheel and crash into a building, dying in the process and being sent to the underworld, where he makes a deal with some demons to kill Hawkman in exchange for his return to life.

Hawkman flies to retrieve the corpse and the destroyed artifact, lamenting the thief's death, only to see a ghost emerge from his body. Later, Hawkman attends the crime scene and describes the criminal to the detective, however an ice mist appears so Hawkman tries to warm up but can't, confused Hawkman begins to hear a voice and asks where it came from, to what the voice says is the person he killed, so he soon introduces himself as Jim Craddock freezing him with an ice machine. Craddock then manipulated the illusion to throw him to the ground to show himself with him to soon lock him in a glass case and show him an illusion of Doctor Fate, Hall tries to communicate with him but the illusion fades, soon Craddock appears threatening Hall to kill two women, which he soon does so as well as kill an illusion of Jeremy, causing Hawkman to scream in frustration at not being able to do anything.

Hawkman then furiously breaks the display case freeing himself to face Craddock as Craddock prepares to kill him. Hawkman confronts him and punches him, but when Craddock tries to grab a piece of The Champion, he realizes that it hurts him, so Hawkman grabs a piece and sticks it in his chest, returning him to the underworld, but before Craddock leaves he warns Hall that a threat is coming. Returning, Hawkman meets with Jeremy and tells him about Craddock's premonition, seeing Doctor Fate's face in a crystal.
