"I'm gonna stay airbone and take out their sky power."
"And Barry, just so we're clear what that essentially equates you and me versus the entire Kryptonian army. We need to buy Kara enough time to take down Zod."
Batman and Flash[src]

The Battle at Edwards Air Force Base was a fatal battle between the newly formed Justice League against the Sword of Rao to defeat General Zod and prevent Terraforming. During the battle, Kara Zor-El confronted Zod, being killed by him, as was Bruce Wayne, causing Barry Allen and his counterpart to try to alter the timeline to save them without success.

Background[]

After the rescue of Kara Zor-El from the Siberian base, Barry Allen along with his younger self and Bruce searched for a way to recreate the accident that gave both the older and younger Barry their powers while Kara Zor-El went in search of Zod and the Sword of Rao, finding them on the Edwards Air Force Base and being horrified at how they were murdering the military forces. Kara returned to the Batcave where she helped Barry regain his powers by carrying him into the sky in the middle of a storm and getting him get struck by lightning.

The team on the Batcave

The Barrys and Kara convince Bruce to join them.

After he regained his powers, Barry would be left to rest in a part of the Batcave while his younger self would begin creating a suit for himself, using an old Batsuit and painting it with similar colors to the original suit. When the older Barry wake up, his younger self would give him back his Flash ring while presenting to him his new suit. Later, Kara would approach them and assure the older Barry that she would help them fight Zod. Bruce, who had put his suit on, would ask the 3 what the name of the team was, to which young Barry would tell him that they were called the Justice League. His older self would correct him by telling him that they kinda were but that there were many missing members. Barry asked Bruce if he would join them, to which Bruce accepted without first saying: "You want to get nuts? Let's get nuts."[1]

Battle[]

Fight at the Desert[]

"Okay, and the space giant... and Mistress Murder... are our responsability too?"
"Hey, hey, hey. Don't think about them, okay? Calm down. We're gonna start with those guys over there. And yeah, they're kryptonian and we won't be able to kill them, but we can slow them down for her. One at a time. Okay? I'm gonna disarm then and then you'll engage. Punch 'em. Come on, Barbie."
"Let's go party?"
Flash and Flash[src]
Flashes and Supergirl

The Flashes and Supergirl arrive at the battlecamp.

Batman would pilot the Batwing while the two Barrys were passengers. Meanwhile, Supergirl followed them by flying. As they headed to the Edwards Air Force Base, the older Barry told his older self about how things happened in his universe and that they were now in uncharted territory. It is there when a jet fires a missile at the Batwing, which is destroyed by Supergirl. Later, other jets begin to fire bullets at the Batwing but without harming its pilot or passengers. Batman would lower the Batwing to the floor where he would release the two Flashes onto the battlefield while Supergir joined them.

Zod back - The Flash

Zod shows up on a floating platform.

Already on land, Supergirl noticed how the biggest Kryptonian dropship would begin to open, with General Dru-Zod emerging from a floating platform along with two of his Kryptonian soldiers. Supergirl would fly towards them and brutally knock Zod's two companions off the platform, leaving only her and Zod. Meanwhile, on land, several soldiers were desperately fighting against the Kryptonian forces until out of the smoke, Nam-Ek emerged and with a missile that he somehow managed to grab, began hitting a group of soldiers and finally launched the missile at a helicopter.

Flash kills a kryptonian soldier

Flash vibrates his hand through a kryptonian's chest and kills him.

Commander Faora-Ul also joined in the land fight agaisn't the human soldiers, jumping on one and then nimbly hitting others who were shooting at her. From a distance, the younger Flash scaredly asked his older self if Nam-Ek and Faora-Ul were his responsibility, to which the older Flash responded that they would first fight the Kryptonians armed with plasma rifles, taking them away so that the younger Flash could engage. The two went towards their first target, with the old Flash taking the kryptonian's rifle, however, that Kryptonian soldier would take out a knife and hurt the young Barry, leaving a mark on his cheek. When he was about to finish him off, the older Flash saved him by vibrating his hand on the Kryptonian's chest, killing him.

An Inevitable Defeat[]

"We found him. We intercepted his pod. But your cousin was not the one we needed. You are the one. Kara Zor-El. Is it your blood we must harvest?"
"What did you do to Kal-El?"
"Your sacrifice that will allow Krypton to live again."
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
"...The infant did not survive."
Zod and Supergirl, the former revealing Kal-El's fate.[src]
Supergirl heat vision

Supergirl shoots her heat vision at Zod.

On Zod's floating platform, he would activate the Black Zero from an arm device for the terraforming to begin. He and Supergirl then have a conversation in which he would reveal that he had murdered an infant Kal-El in his search for the codex, which enraged Supergirl and caused her to begin attacking him, knocking him off the platform onto the battlefield and attacking him in mid-air. During this, Batman, inside the Batwing, was fighting two Kryptonian dropships which were chasing him in the air in the meantime. As he approached a tall rock formation, the Batwing deployed two hooks which tied the Kryptonian dropships together and caused them to collide into each other and explode.

Second Flash vs kryptonian

Young Flash kicks a kryptonian soldier trapped in the cyclonic diversion.

Meanwhile, after the Flashes' first failed attempt to combat the Kryptonian army, the older Flash comes up with a new idea. He would now create a cyclonic diversion while his younger self engaged. Suddenly, a Kryptonian soldier fires plasma at them, which they dodge and then the older Barry would begin to spin around to create a small cyclone which would surround the Kryptonian. Then, his younger self would run up to the Kryptonian and kick him, defeating him. However, a lot of charge began to build up on the young Flash that he decided to carelessly shoot it at another Kryptonian soldier, which ended up causing the young Barry to fly and fall to the ground.

Supergirl gets mad

Supergirl screams after Zod destroys the helicopter and kills it's pilot.

Outside the battlefield, Zod and Supergirl continued fighting. Zod took a big jump into the air and sent Supergirl crashing into a helicopter, which she tried to save but once on the ground, Zod would destroy it, killing its pilot, which would anger Supergirl. The two would clash again but Supergirl kicked Zod towards the two Kryptonian ships that Batman had destroyed earlier. Meanwhile, the older Flash taught his younger self that he had to put his hands together when shooting lightning from his hands, only for the two to be surrounded by Kryptonian soldiers. In this situation, the two prepared to give the final battle against them.

The Flashes team up 2

The Flashes create an electric explosion.

The two Flashes would begin to kick, punch and shoot lightning at full speed against several members of the Sword of Rao while Supergirl, with a piece of the crashed ships, would begin to beat Zod until he was "unconscious", falling tired to the ground. The two Flashes would approach the biggest Kryptonian dropship where there were several Kryptonian soldiers gathered in a line and put their feet together, creating a horde of lightning that sent the Kryptonians flying. The two Flashes would begin to hit the Kryptonians in the air, defeating them.

Zod extracts the codex from Supergirl

Zod extracts the codex of Supergirl.

Meanwhile, Batman, inside the Batwing, would fire several missiles towards the Zod's mothership, however, the ship was shield protected and instead, it fired at the Batwing with plasma, damaging it and preventing Batman from ejecting. At the same time, the older Flash would send his younger self to look for Supergirl, who was approaching Zod's unconscious body to stop the terraforming with her arm device. Unexpectedly, Supergirl was stabbed from behind by Zod, who had pretended to have been unconscious. A Kryptonian dropship landed near her and from there, two Kryptonians came out with an extraction device to take the codex inside Kara's body, killing her in the process.

Flash in the middle of the battle

The Batwing crashes with Zod's mothership and explodes.

In the sky, Batman, seeing that he could not eject from the damaged Batwing, decides to sacrifice himself to destroy the Zod's mothership's shield, crashing into the ship and exploding, dying as a result. Meanwhile, the young Barry finds the lifeless Kara on the ground after Zod extracted the codex from her body and leaves the scene. Devastated, Barry thought that this wasn't supposed to happen while his older self sadly watched the burning remains of the Batwing fall from Zod's mothership, both realizing they had just lost.[1]

Changing the Timeline[]

"Kara's dead."
"They're both dead."
"But they don't have to be, right? 'Cause we can go back... Like you did."
"But you're not fast enough yet."
"You sure?"
Flash and Flash, before the two travel back in time to the Chronobowl[src]

The younger Flash returns to his older self's location to tell him that Kara was dead while his older self sadly confirmed to him that Batman had also died. Refusing to believe the Justice League is dead, the younger Flash comes up with the idea of going back in time to which his older self would reply that he was not fast enough yet, as the younger Flash questioned him if he was sure about it. This motivates Flash to run as fast as he could to reach the Chronobowl while his older self follows him from behind worriedly, and they both arrive in the Chronobowl as the younger Flash remarked to his older self if he ran fast enough. Both Flashes soon go back in time to the moment where they've created an electrical explosion in the battlefield against the Sword of Rao during the battle, but not before Barry notices an interdimensional tear materializing far within the Chronobowl caused by their actions.

The Flash Trailer 045

Nam-Ek attacks the Batwing.

The Flashes got out of the Chronobowl and run in different directions, with the older Flash running to save Batman and his younger self to save Supergirl. Flash quickly warns Batman that Zod's mothership was shield protected to which Batman complies and aborts attacking the mothership. However, upon seeing a group of soldiers shooting at Nam-Ek, Batman decided to attack him as Flash agrees and orders him to do so, piloting the Batwing towards where Nam-Ek was and starting to shoot him with bullets and missiles. Nam-Ek was unaffected however and ran towards the Batwing, jumping onto it and breaking the Batwing's window, and Batman quickly activates the Batwing's rotating mode so that Nam-Ek couldn't reach it, but he was getting closer and closer to the cockpit. Without any other option, Batman ejected from the Batwing, as it falls against the ground and explode, while Flash is relieved, having managed to save Batman from his death for now.

Supergirl punches Zod

Supergirl punches Zod inside the cyclonic diversion.

Elsewhere in the battlefield, the young Flash arrives just as Zod destroys the helicopter and killed the pilot that Supergirl had managed to save. Quickly strategizing, Flash then does a cyclonic diversion of his own around Zod and started spinning around in circles in it, creating a mini tornado. Supergirl was surprised by Flash's action, before she flies into the cyclone and attacks Zod, who couldn't see well because of the dust clouds being generated by the cyclone. As Supergirl hits him several times until he finally adapted to the situation and upon seeing Supergirl about to attack him with another blow, Zod dodged and smashed her to the ground with both of his arms, making her collide with Flash and stopping the assault, incapacitating them both.

Batman attacks Nam-Ek

Batman attacks Nam-Ek with his sticky bombs.

Taking advantage of the fact that both Supergirl and Flash were out of combat, Zod takes out his retractable blade once again while Faora-Ul comes and grabs Supergirl by the cape to allow Zod to stab her again. As he regains consciousness, Flash watches his friend die again by the hands of Zod but instead of helping her, he decides to go look for his older self to go back in time again. As he escaped, Faora notices him and soon decided to follow him. At the Batwing crash site, Nam-Ek walks out from the wreckage unscathed only for Batman, with his grapple gun, to start attacking him with several sticky bombs. Batman manages to detonate two bombs but when he placed the third behind Nam-Ek's head, Nam-Ek grabs him by the cape and throws him to the ground, mortally wounding him.

Batman in the battle

A mortally injured Batman about to fall to the ground.

Nam-Ek slowly walks toward Batman, who had blood coming out of his mouth, until suddenly the sticky bomb that was planted behind Nam-El's head detonated, leaving him unconscious. As Batman afterward falls to his knees as he starts succumbing to the injuries he sustained from fighting Nam-Ek, the older Flash arrives to Batman's aid, trying to prevent his death from being more painful. Holding Batman in his arms, Flash tells him that he wouldn't die but the vigilante knew that it was all over, making an indirect callback to Flash that there is maybe some other time. With his last words as Flash asks if they can't actually bring him back, Batman tells him that they had already brought him back, before dying from his injuries.

The Flashes attacks Nam-El with lightning

The Flashes shot lightning at Nam-Ek.

The younger Flash soom after arrives and upon seeing Batman dead, he told his older self they must go back in time again for another attempt and it is until Nam-Ek wakes up and tries to attack the Flashes. The younger Flash attacks Nam-Ek with lightning from his hands, however, this only stopped Nam-Ek for a while, but it did not hurt him. The older Flash quickly ran off the battlefield and back to acumulate charge, ditching his gloves, and returns to shoot a powerful lightning bolt at Nam-Ek, which, together with the lightning that his younger self was shooting, ended up blowing up Nam-Ek's armor. Several pieces of the armor were coming towards the Flashes, forcing them to phase together to avoid getting hit by the debris, but a piece embeds into young Barry's arm.

Faora - UI death

Young Flash kills Faora with a kryptonian battle armor piece.

The older Flash tried to help remove the armor piece from his younger self's arm, but Faora, having followed the younger Flash, attacked the two by pushing them away. Seeing that the younger Flash had a armor shard of her partner Nam-Ek's embedded on his arm, Faora attempted to kill him, but Flash slashes her leg with the armor shard. Realizing that Kryptonian metal can penetrate Kryptonian skin, Flash incapacitates Faora with the help of the armor shard, and coldly kills her by brutally stabbing her in the chest with it while his older self gets back up and witnessed this, yet shows no sympathy for killing her as he was focused on trying to save their friends again. As his older self is concerned by his murderous action, the younger Flash runs back to the Chronobowl while his older self follows him not far behind.

Trying Again and Again[]

"Can we please just take a minute?"
"Sorry, dude. Yeah, but, bro- Of-of course! That's the whole thing, we can take as much time as it takes!"
"No, that's... That's not what I mean..."
Flash and Flash, upon returning to the Chronobowl after another failed attempt to save Supergirl and Batman.[src]
Kara dies for the third time

Zod stabs Supergirl for the third time.

Back at the Chronobowl, Barry began to notice that the deaths of Supergirl and Batman seemed to not be able to be avoided and tried to tell his younger self if they could take a minute. Unfortunately, the latter misunderstood the situation and thought that his older self was tired, laughing and assuring the whole thing that they will take as much time to try saving their friends again. Despite Barry's worries for his past self, he went back in time again to try to save Supergirl again but arrived too late as Zod returned to stab her.

At some point, Flash shoots lightning from his hands to attack a Kryptonian, with another piece of his armor embedding into Flash's hand. The speedster soon returns to the Chronobowl where he asks Barry where he was all the time, while his older self warned him to listen. Flash however ignores him and returns to the battlefield for another attempt to where Zod and Supergirl were fighting, and the younger Flash tries to attack Zod only for the general to hit him, knocking him out and make a fatal cut to Supergirl's belly, killing her once again.

Flash yet again returns to the Chronobowl where the older Barry would tell him that the death of his companions was an inevitable intersection and once again informs him to stop, but his younger self again did not listen to him and instead went back in time to try to save Supergirl yet again. This time, Zod tries to snap her neck before Flash arrived to try to save her again, but Zod managed to react in time and grabbed Flash by his neck, forcing him to phase out of his grip while Zod snaps Kara's neck, killing her yet again.[1]

Aftermath[]

It was at that point that the young Flash would run for 40 years in which he would try to save Supergirl from Zod but always failing. Over time he would kill more members of the Sword of Rao and the pieces of their armor would impale Flash's body, making him darker and darker until there came a point where he had become unrecognizable... Flash no longer existed, only Dark Flash...[1]
