Apollo was an Old God who was worshipped as the God of the Sun by the Ancient Greek civilizations. He was slain by Ares during the War of the Gods.

War of the Gods[]
When Ares launched an attack on the Amazons, Apollo and the Old Gods opposed the God of War on Mount Olympus. In the battle, Apollo was slain by Ares, along with all other gods except Zeus.[1]
Legacy[]
In 2015 Lex Luthor compared Superman to several deities, including the Greek god Apollo.[2]
